1. What is your favourite race/event?
In the beginning of the year I did my first Fast One. It was a bit unplanned, but a good indicator of form before the road Nationals. I absolutely loved the route and it suited me so well. We had a slight drizzle during the race (I love racing in the rain) so I think I enjoyed it even more. An added bonus was winning the race.
The other race I absolutely loved was the National Road Race Time trail. It was a testing course where I could dig really deep and defend my title. The fully charged gave me much needed energy to finish strong!
Even though I focus mostly on road cycling, I can’t wait for the Race to Nowhere in McGregor at the end of the year. As a roadie it really challenges me with some good single track and taxing climbs, but with absolutely stunning scenery and a great vibe at the finish!!
2. What is your dream race/event?
I think every cyclist dreams of completing the Epic. Since I started my two-wheeled journey it has been a dream of mine to one day be able to do that.
3. What is your favourite Hammer product?
Sjoh, it is pretty difficult to choose only one favourite Hammer product when all of them are really great! I love using the Strawberry HEED in both training rides and races since it has such a good carb and electrolyte balance! I especially love it on hot days as it’s not too sweet. For anything over 3 hours (or two if it’s a hard session), I use Perpetuem since it has some protein in as well which is great for recovery and fuelling.
For my interval sessions I drink a serving of Fully Charged to help me dig really deep!
During racing I don’t normally eat (Unless it’s a stage race, mountain bike race or really long race) but use gels. I normally take a caffeine gel 15 minutes before the race, some apple cinnamon gels during the race and another caffeine gel near the end of the race.
